Off We Go!
Hi!
We are both very new to the blogging world, but we thought what better way to document our trip for family and friends and anyone who cares to follow! We don't really have a specific schedule for posting anything on here but when Wi-fi allows and we have something interesting to say, will let you all know.. few pics, few vids and bit of idle chit chat.
In-case we haven't met (lol, hi Mum) I'm Lily and about to embark on a trip with my boyfriend, Luke! We have quit our jobs, moved out of our flat and pretty much sold everything we own to travel the world together for 6 months!
I have wanted to see more of the world for a long time, but didn't really think it was possible to save whilst renting in London and trying to pursue a career, however once we stood in Heathrow Airport waving Luke's brother Sam off for his worldwide adventure we knew it just had to happen. So lots of saving and a good few months later here we are.
We booked our first flight New Delhi in August 2017, knowing that we wanted to start in India, why not jump in at the deep end?! Delhi After India we head all over South East Asia, so we have a very exciting few months ahead!
Planning for a six month holiday has been a challenge in itself, Luke's take on planning has been pop down to the local on Saturday night, have a few pints and google the top ten things to see in India.. mine has been slightly different. If you know me, you know I love a spreadsheet and good old list. I have a financial spreadsheet, packing list, time lines, daily budgets, the lot. I have acted like its been stressful but I've really been in my element!
I cannot wait for the adventure to begin tomorrow, bags are packed (only 10 kilos each for 6 whole months!) ugly walking shoes are broken in...all we need to do it get to the airport!

| One of Luke's first 'planning nights' when all we managed to do was drink 3 large G&T's and bicker about whether or not we should order dinner... |
I suppose I should add my two penneth, I am Luke and I'm a chef and I cant wait to travel around with my notepad grabbing recipes and techniques and seeing some amazing new ingredients. For me, this is something I have been wanting to do for at least 5 years, to think that tomorrow we're leaving Europe for the first time and going on an amazing adventure feels very strange and slightly daunting. It feels very odd to be off work for the next 6 months and not to be trudging around a kitchen in London and very odd to be embarking on something that 9 months ago was merely pipe dream.
As Lily mentioned my technique towards the planning of our trip was definitely geared around the public house of an evening, gazing through our travel books looking for bits and bobs to see. Annoying Lily like a small child going to Thorpe Park for the first time with places to see and food to be eaten all the while Lily snapping back at me WE NEED TO DO THE VISAS, WE NEED MORE MONEY SAVED or WILL YOU GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF THE CLOUDS, but I must say without Lily's meticulous spreadsheets and timelines we would still be nowhere near the exit door she has been amazing in the last few months leading up to take off.
For me this trip is about following my passion for the food of the far east, the spices, smells, the blend of sweet, salt, sour and spice. I've been lucky enough to work with some brilliant chefs in my time in kitchens so far and there passions for cuisines rubbed off on me be it Paul Merrett showing me his favourite Sri Lankan dish kottu roti or working at Benares with Atul Kochhar and seeing all the boys in the kitchen with amazing palates and talent to blend so many flavours to amalgamate into one dish. This gave me a taste of what id like to cook for the rest of my career and now I can follow the paths of many a chef before going out to the far east and learning the traditional cooking techniques, regional differences and quirky little recipes.
So to sum up as we get closer to departure I'm fizzing a little it the pit of my stomach with nerves and excitement but I know I'm going with a great girl and we're gonna create wonderful memories, see some amazing sites and eat some knockout grub.
If anyone reading or if anyone sees any of our other social media post please comment and let us know some great places to visit (or to avoid) because we are rookies on the whole travelling thing so help will be very much appreciated.
See you in Delhi!
Lily & Luke
Jeez, that took some effort to get that published to your blog, the name went over anyway so the first part of my comment was redundant.
