SingaPOUR!
Hi Guys,
Hope everyone is well?
We had 2 days before we left for our last stop in Asia and we weren't a 100% sure what to expect, Singapore is an odd place a kind of portal into another world a perfect synopsis of a city; modern, exciting, full of flair and intrigue and loads to see and do.
We arrived about lunchtime to our hostel and if were being honest it was pretty average, even grim but alas we cracked on and went on the explore. We had a ganders on tripadvisor as we do and picked out Gardens by the Bay for our afternoon visit. It was a bit like the Eden Project or Kew Gardens, two massive greenhouses plonked in the middle of the city and surrounded by beautiful gardens and sculptures. If you like flowers it was amazing, full of wonderful colours and smells. One of the glass houses was centred around flowers from all over the world and the other was centred around a waterfall. We particularly liked the latter, mainly because it was air-conned. We spent the evening looking for a cheap beer and in Singapore that is a challenge.

Unfortunately on day 2 the rainy season had caught up with us and wiped out most of our morning. We booked on a scooter tour for the evening but we will elaborate more on this a bit later. Once the rain stopped for long enough we made a dash for the station as Luke wanted to go and find the Michelin star street food stall. We manged to go to the wrong stall first so we ended up having 2 lunches of Soya chicken and rice... not a bad thing! The second of our lunches was indeed Hawker Chan's famous Soya Chicken and Rice it was very nice but nothing mind-blowing. It seemed a tad like a bit of a marketing ploy but it was pretty good and glad we popped in.
Evening rolled around and we joined the scooter tour of the city. They were the old school micro scooters you had when you were a child and our tour guide was on a serious mission. 18 kilometers in 3 hours (with an hour break for dinner). It was great fun but the biggest workout we have ever done, especially in the 32 degree humid heat. We are so glad we did it because the light show and city at night were spectacular. Singapore comes to life at night its modern and awe inspiring and it reaks of wealth, spectacular skylines and massive hotels and dreams of maybe one day being able to come back and live like kings.
Singapore was a city we would love to visit again one day, hopefully with more of a budget to be able to stay in one of the grand hotels. We would also love enough time to go and visit the island Sentosa.
Another place to add to the never ending list!
Our next stop is Lombok for a week of diving, blog on that one to follow soon.
Lily and Luke
